The website is not finished, but I imagine it never will be. So, as it is, at this point, mostly functional (if not particularly formal), I’m making this post for posterity – the website is up!
The process of making a website was both more and less complicated than I expected, really. For a while I was planning to self-host and code it from scratch, since it sounded like a fun project and I certainly don’t mind a charming retro aesthetic; but I’m no expert in cybersecurity, and in the end, I needed a website more than I needed to have fun building one.
So, WordPress it is! It’s funny – looking at the templates, I suddenly realised how many very professional-looking websites are built off of this thing. Then I go into the page editor and, well, it’s just like Tumblr! It’s not surprising – I knew Tumblr was built off of WordPress, but I’m realising now that it really did start out as basically just a host for WordPress blogs – blogs that would have been their own website but for the knowhow of the people using them. So a Tumblr account and a corporate site have a common ancestor in the humble WordPress blog.
Anyway – why Crittermint? Well, the reason I built this website is mainly because (like every other person that gets a 3D printer) I want to sell some prints. But it’s not just that. See, I’m a big creature enjoyer – real or fantastical – and at some point, I want to bring my own to life! Or, in other words: to mint critters. That’ll involve other disciplines than just sculpting and printing, so it’ll take a while… But I figure I can sell some simpler things in the meantime and use it to get more supplies.
I think I’m going to be printing a lot of Dummy 13s. They make for surprisingly good mannequins, and they’re very customisable. Thanks, soozafone! (Not that the Dummy 13 is simple. It’s just simpler for me because I don’t have to design it, lol)
The blogging thing is more spontaneous. I had been thinking of making a proper one for a while, but hey, if I’ve got a WordPress site right there… Might as well combine them, right? I guess it’s also good advertising. I have to think about that sort of thing now.
Alright, I have to go. See you soon!
